Message from the City Manager
It means taking a look at the services and programs we offer and asking, “how can we make this better?” That was the question we needed to answer when redesigning this site. Our website is the technical gateway to the City and needs to offer the same level of customer service excellence. So we’ve made significant improvements from a mobile-friendly design, making it easier to access from any device, to a mega drop-down menu for easier navigation, to embedded social media widgets so visitors can stay up-to-date and connected to the latest information we’re sharing.
We’ve utilized social media in a new way recently, as well, by using Facebook Live to stream our City Council meetings in real time. Though we’ve long used Twitter to offer a play-by-play of Council meetings and a long-term plan is in place to expand live video access, the addition of Facebook Live has provided a no-cost, immediate solution to ensure residents, visitors and businesses can observe the civic process without making a trip to Council Chambers.
Our recent improvements aren’t just online. We’ve made contacting the City of Newark by phone much easier as well, removing the lengthy automated menu and connecting you with a live person who can get you to the right person or department quickly.
Recognizing we have a diverse network of residents and visitors, we’ve also enhanced our communication efforts by providing access to translator services for nearly 250 languages and dialects – a service available over the phone or in-person at the City municipal building.
We continue to see progress in every aspect of our work, but know there remains room for improvement. We are grateful to our Mayor and Council, our citizens, visitors and robust business community for their continued support and suggestions and look forward to making 2017 another successful year.
