Jennifer Wallace

Jen Wallace was elected to Newark City Council as the representative for District 3 in April 2016.

Jen moved to Newark in 2000 when she and her husband decided Newark was the perfect place to settle down and raise their daughter. They appreciated the small-town feel and sense of community that Newark provided--and they still do.

Jen has been an active and engaged Newark resident. Through her involvement, she developed a passion for open and transparent government, fairness and equity, and improving opportunities for citizen participation. Jen feels strongly that the future of Newark depends on input from its residents and businesses, and she is committed to fostering and facilitating increased civic engagement. Jen subscribes to the point of view that a healthy democracy requires all of us working together--residents, council, the city administration, businesses, and the University.

Jen has a strong record of service and leadership. She has served as a volunteer leader on the boards of several local organizations for a variety of causes, but all with the common goal of strengthening our community. She received the Delaware Pacem in Terris Peacemaker Among Us Award for 2012 and the Delaware Audubon Conservation Award for 2015.

Jen earned her BA in History from Delaware State University in 1998. She has a background working in nonprofits and governmental agencies and has worked as the Assistant Archivist for the University of Delaware, a reference specialist for the New Castle County Public Libraries, and as the Communications Coordinator for the Delaware Historical Society. Currently, she works as a freelance writer and communications consultant.
